Islamic Music

Here is a beautiful song in the Urdu language, called "lab pe ati hai dua banke tamanna meri" ("my wish comes to my lips as a prayer"). In this prayer song (in Islam this type of prayer is called dua) we dedicate our lives to God and to those around us, praying that our actions and our desires will make our country beautiful and we will be a light for the world - a message to be sung by all people of all nations and religions.

Click here to listen to a recording of it sung by Parkinson Lane Singers and to read the Urdu text and English translation.

Here is a song in English called "Silent Sunlight" originally composed in the 1970s by Cat Stevens (now a muslim known as Yusuf Islam) and popularised more recently as a na'at (Islamic devotional song) by Dawud Wharnsby, who has added the Arabic refrain "La Illaha Il Allah" ("There is no god but God") - the most fundamental prayer of Islam (and, for that matter, of all religions).
